Heiarii Williams from Tahiti has taken the last wildcard position up for grabs for the 2009 Billabong Pro Tahiti at Teahupoo, by taking out the Von Zipper trials.
Williams, 22, defeated Hawaiian tube specialist Mark Healey to claim his second victory at the Von Zipper Trials, having won in 2006. His tube riding prowess netted him a 9.17 in the final to easily defeat the Hawaiian who had been outstanding in the earlier rounds.
Williams becomes the lowest seeded wildcard and may face current world number one Joel Parkinson in round two when the Billabong Pro kicks off on Saturday.
Healey, 31, still has a chance of participating in the main event if one of the top 45 surfers pull out.
